The shadow holds out the pentacle now, and the physical attack, at least, bounces off, back at Naoto. Souji's not sure if this means it reflects physical attacks or if it's using a counter skill, but rather than wait for confirmation from Rise, he lifts his sword and attacks. If it bounces back at him, at least it won't be enough to knock him out.
